One of the hardest decisions for elite athletes in college sports these days is deciding between continuing their education and playing another year as a superstar on the college level or cashing in by going pro. No matter who you are or what situation you may be in financially, making millions of dollars doing what you love to do is a dream come true, but I would say about 90% of professional athletes fail to maintain their finances over time and ultimately regret not pursuing another career outside of their sport.

The latest elite college athlete that has been given the opportunity to make $50+ million dollars immediately by getting selected number one overall in the 2011 NFL Draft is Stanford’s Heisman trophy runner up quarterback Andrew Luck.

As quite possibly the most promising young quarterback in college football in a very long time, Andrew Luck has gotten nothing but praise during his time at Stanford. Not only has Luck been said to be NFL ready right out of college and gotten comparisons to NFL great John Elway, but there was no doubt that this kid would go number in the draft and be an instant millionaire.

Usually, college football players of Luck’s caliber never pass up on an opportunity like this and most people would think he is crazy to do so, but the Stanford gunslinger has decided to stay for one more season and continue his education.

If I were in his position, I don’t know if I could do the same as he is risking his future by not taking the opportunity, but I have to admire this kid’s decision as it is bold and brave.

Hopefully, for his sake, Luck can continue to play at a high level next season, get into a big bowl game and win the Heisman trophy.
